Shortlisted for the CID Award for “Interior Design of the Year: Office" 2012.
AK Design was commissioned to lead the relocation of AMI from their Building 6, DIFC offices (a previous award winning AK Design project) into Currency House, DIFC.
The key to the design strategy was the Client’s desire to reclaim, reuse and recycle high quality materials and components from their existing office. The intention was not to replicate the existing, but to design to utilise valuable existing materials where feasible and cost effective. In doing so, perceived quality is higher than could be expected for the budget, environmental impact is minimized, and a connection is created between the old and new locations. Familiarity promotes continuity for staff and visitors alike.
Materials reused included combed cedar wall cladding and cupboard doors, joinery cupboards, broadloom carpets, bespoke executive desks, light fittings and lamps, sanitary ware and bathroom accessories, furniture and audio visual equipment.
